Prosthetic pieces can be made for almost every part of the body and usually always starts with a life cast being taken of the artist involved. Sometimes the pieces made are simple and consist of only the prosthetic foam.

Other times there is an underlying mechanism such as when blood has to be seen flowing or a bullet hit has to be concealed beneath the ‘skin’. For example Morag has made several ‘medical procedures’ for BBC TV’s ‘Casualty’.

Body in Question

Body in Question. BBC TV. Michael Gough as Humpty Dumpty. A life cast was taken and then Mr. Gough’s chin completely re-sculpted as he was sporting a full beard at the time for a West End production and could not shave beforehand.

The Green Man. BBC TV Drama. Body mould taken of the actor then the tree bark was sculpted onto the body cast. The prosthetic foam girdle is made in one piece for ease of dressing. Make up artist blended the colour up onto the actors body.

The Green Man

Northern Lights

Northern Lights. Disney TV. Starring John Hoffman and Diane Keaton. Perhaps the smallest prosthetic piece ever made. The scar from hare lip surgery was needed for the character played by John Hoffman. The life cast was taken while he wore a small dental prosthetic which hooked up his upper lip. Two were made for every day of shooting. Application and make up by Make-Up artist, Norma Hill-Patton.
